KITING IN EL GOUNA

Just 30 minutes away from the red sea `s main touristic airport of Hurghada, El Gouna is built along the shore of a small island. Famous for its lagoons, sandy beaches and reliable wind conditions/weather close to Europe, it makes it  the perfect destination for all kinds of riders except maybe for those who love to rip the waves. The short flight time makes it a great short trip get away.

The GKA World Tour freestyle competitions have their yearly stop over as it is perfect for freestylers and freeriders.

EL Gouna is also great for beginners, thanks to the flat and shallow water in most spots like in Buzzha Beach with shallow water far into the sea. Beginners can pick out of many kite schools around El Gouna.

Mangroovy Beach is another spot with side -on from the north and lots of space.

Towards the south you have the Movenpick hotel where only guests are allowed to kite unless you pay a day rate. Watch out to be dragged into the bathing area of the hotel, which is just downwind of the kite center.

Be ware of the tide if you jump high because it can get extremely shallow at times. With extremely low tide it can even dry out completely for a few hours.

WIND, WEATHER AND WATER

It is pretty windy in el Gouna for most of the days all year long, especially consistent in summertime. Bring small kites for the windy days and a 10 or 12m for most of the time. Sometimes the fan just shuts down for a few days but normally not for very long.

The water heats up so you definetely won’t be needing a wetsuit in summer when air temperatures can get really hot. In spring or autumn you might enjoy still sunny weather and good conditions with less crowd.

OFF THE WATER

El Gouna is a clean and safe town set up for tourism so expect a very western international atmosphere. Plenty of activities for tourists are being organized like snorkelling, SUPing, sail trips, desert excursions on quads etc. There is also a cable park, tennis facilities and even a 18hole golf course.

There are many accomodation options from small inns upto 5star hotel and private houses. You don t need to pick an all inclusive hotel because there are plenty of cafes and restaurants around town suiting all budgets.
