KITING EL NAABA – MARSA ALAM
El Naaba is a great alternative for an Egypt kite holiday-escape with reliable and easy conditions for those wanting to avoid the touristic and more developed places around el Gouna and Hurghada. Around 200km more south and far more laidback environment at the edge of the desert, you arrive at 2 bays; Beach Bay and Surfers Bay, separated by a large reef. This natural barrier shelters a nice flat area from beach break but frequently creates a nice wave on the reef itself.
Giant Bay suits all level of riding with flat shallow water. The waves at the reef run cross-shore with the wind and can get up to 2 meters.
Surfers Bay is popular for windsurfers but there is enough space if you can ride upwind.
There is a kite lagoon which is great for both beginners and freestyler. There are no real hassles but beware for some sharper stones so wear some booties.
Tommy Friedl Pro Center runs a shuttle service towards the lagoon.
WIND, WEATHER AND WATER
The main season is from October till March with steady cross on winds.
You’ll need a thin wetsuit in winter, and shorty in spring and autumn. Summer has great water temperatures for boardshoarts or biquínis.
Outside temperature are comfy but it can get chilly in winter and farely hot in summer.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
Marsa Alam is still a bit more traditional Egyptian and still a small town. There are a few cafes and enough restaurants, including some that offer more international cuisine.
If it is not windy you can go supping, snorkelling and diving close by. Or play some beach volley or slackline etc. The mountains are not far if you want to go for a hike.
60 kilometers from the village lies a luxury tourist área called Pot Ghalib which has a marina, bars and restaurants.
Three Corners Beach Resort equinox is under Belgian kite loving management with great food. You can also eat at the nearby marina.
